HACO Joins UN Global Compact Network Kenya
Nairobi Kenya, 02 May 2023 – HACO Industries has today joined the UN Global Compact Network Kenya in a major move to bolster its sustainability efforts and to mainstream sustainable practices as centra to business operations and development.
The UN Global Compact is a voluntary initiative that encourages businesses to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies and practices. By joining this initiative, HACO Industries is committing to driving positive impact in ten principles under four areas -Human Rights, Labour, Environment, and Anti-corruption.
Speaking during the on-boarding ceremony HACO Industries MD, Mary-Ann Musangi said,
It has been our endeavour to integrate our communities and stakeholders in our growth vision since the beginning. Not just by offering productive employment, but also by creating resilient economies. We have been intentional in uplifting the marginalized and vulnerable communities in Kenya. We do this by absorbing micro-enterprises and agri-businesses into HACO’s value chain, making space for them to grow through decent work opportunities.
UN Global Compact represented by the Executive Director Ms. Judy Njino congratulated the company for making this move. She emphasized the importance of having progressive communities made up of local companies to exchange ideas and knowledge on accomplishing a common objective – to make the world a better place as economic stakeholders.
‘Congratulations to HACO Industries led by the Managing Director – Mary-Ann Musangi, for being intentional and making this move. The network hosts over 20,000 companies across 162 countries in the world and HACO joins a group of exemplary peers who have made this important commitment to advance responsible business conduct as guided by our UN Global Compact 10 Principles. We are glad that more local companies are coming on board to actively tailor nuanced sustainable solutions that are practical for the Kenyan Market. ”
The Managing Director was accompanied by the leadership team, as well as HACO’s Green Team – which is the Sustainability Committee that will support the uptake of the sustainability vision within the organization. The Green Team is made up of members from different departments and has been selected based on their diverse expertise to support the organization in this endeavour.
